About

Hi, I am Elena – Lifelong Dancers founder.

Lifelong Dancers is something I thought about three or four years from my arrival in Melbourne.

It all started when after eight years of not attending a proper dance class, I couldn’t believe I was rehearsing a fast-paced jazz routine for a performance in an Australian theatre!

It was the early 2000’s when I had a horrible car accident a couple of months before my wedding in Mexico. My mum said, “you were fortunate; it is like being born again”.

Indeed, I appreciated being safe mainly because I wasn’t driving, and my colleagues and I were just heading to another city meeting in the morning. The guy who was driving was speeding in a rainy situation. He didn’t listen to us asking him to slow down.

It took many years of chiropractor, yoga and swimming to refute the initial diagnosis of a discouraging doctor: “I don’t think you should jump for the rest of your life, your backbone is not straight. I just found you have one more vertebra than most of the people. It is not a big deal, but you shouldn’t probably have children”.

Initially, it all made sense. I could barely walk without pain. Fortunately, to my surprise, after the therapy and the low-impact years, the pain faded out. I was feeling better and eventually tried some aerobic exercises without pain. And guess what? It involved jumping!

The osteopath told me “I don’t know why that doctor gave you a discouraging speech but live your life, try going back to dance and experiment, as long as it’s not painful, feel free to keep going!” That was about a year before moving to Australia.

So, when I learned about adult classes available in Melbourne, I couldn’t wait to try them out. It was a dream come true. After the first rehearsal for the performance, I called my husband bursting in happiness, “You won’t believe how much I danced, I felt ten years younger. It was like going back to uni days. The best news, there was no pain!”

After that moment, I haven’t looked back. I’ve tried new styles and explored becoming a choreographer. Despite getting older, my love for dance would just not diminish but grows every day.

It felt like there is so much to share and uncountable inspiring stories to tell. Would you like to share your story as a lifelong dancer? Share your story; let’s inspire each other! .
